Does Mat Ishbia have a private jet? No aircraft is registered in his own name, but UWM’s 2026 proxy statement says the company leases various aircraft owned by entities he controls. FAA registry searches for his name and for UWM returned no aircraft, which fits that arrangement: the aircraft sit in other entities.
Ishbia owns the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury and is CEO of UWM, based in Pontiac, Michigan, so he travels between Arizona and Michigan often. How he does it is a different question from what the registry shows.
The short answer
Not in his own name. We found no aircraft registered to Mat Ishbia, United Wholesale Mortgage or UWM in the FAA registry on November 6, 2026. But UWM’s proxy statement for its June 3, 2026 meeting says UWM “leases various aircraft owned by entities controlled by Mat Ishbia,” and that it paid those entities an aggregate of $0.4 million for aircraft usage in 2025. The filing does not name the aircraft types or tail numbers.
Does Mat Ishbia Have a Private Jet?
Nothing public we opened ties him to a specific aircraft by model or tail number. The SEC filing described below is the only source we found that links him to aircraft at all. Searches that returned no results include “ISHBIA” and the company names “UNITED WHOLESALE” and “UWM.” A search for “SUNS” returned only unrelated owners with names such as Sunset or Sunshine LLCs, none of them connected to the team.
Readers also search for a yacht under his name. This page covers aircraft only, and we found no source we trust for a yacht, so we make no claim about one.
What the numbers around him do tell us
UWM’s 2026 proxy statement says SFS Holding Corp. and Ishbia, as its control person, control a majority of UWM’s combined voting power. That is a control position in a public company, which matters for the next section.
What the FAA Registry and UWM Filings Can Tell You
The FAA registry lists the registered owner of each US aircraft. That owner is often an LLC, a bank trustee or a company, so a person’s name can return nothing even when the person flies often. A name search is a first check, not a final answer.
For executives of public companies there is a second source: the annual proxy statement filed with the SEC. It lists compensation and, where applicable, perquisites for named executive officers. Personal use of company aircraft is one of the items a company must disclose when it exceeds thresholds set by SEC rules.
UWM’s proxy for the June 3, 2026 meeting covers fiscal 2025 and has an aircraft line in its related party transactions. It says UWM leases various aircraft owned by entities controlled by Ishbia and pays the owning entities an hourly rate for business use. UWM reports paying an aggregate of $0.4 million for aircraft usage to entities owned by Ishbia in 2025, plus $0.8 million to unrelated third parties for pilots and ancillary services. The proxy also says named executive officers other than the CEO may be authorized by the CEO to use the aircraft for personal trips, with the cost reported under All Other Compensation.
How to look it up yourself
Search the FAA registry by owner name and by N-number. Then open the company’s latest proxy on the SEC’s EDGAR site and read the compensation tables and their footnotes. Two sources that agree are worth more than one article that asserts a tail number.
How Public-Company CEOs Fly: Company Aircraft and Disclosed Perks
Many executives fly on aircraft owned or leased by their company, or on charter, or through jet cards and fractional programs. The arrangement determines where it shows up. A company-owned jet appears on the FAA registry under the company name. A charter does not appear on the registry at all, because the operator owns the aircraft.
This is why a negative registry result is weak evidence. A leader who flies exclusively on charter or on a fractional share will not appear in an owner search for any name we tried.
Why we do not guess a model
Older articles on this topic list a Gulfstream G650, a Bombardier Global, a Citation Longitude or a Phenom as the likely jet for a team owner. That is speculation presented as fact. We name an aircraft only when a registry entry or a named outlet ties it to the person.
Phoenix to Detroit by Private Jet: What It Costs
If you want to make the Phoenix to Detroit trip yourself, it is a long domestic leg, so ask any operator which aircraft can fly it nonstop with your passengers and bags, since range depends on payload and winds.
Pricing comes from the aircraft size, the trip distance and the fees on top. Our private jet charter cost guide breaks down what a quote includes. To compare the cabin classes you would be choosing between, see best midsize private jets.

How We Checked
On November 6, 2026, we ran FAA registry name searches for “ISHBIA,” “UNITED WHOLESALE,” “UWM” and “SUNS.” None returned an aircraft tied to him or his companies. We did not find reporting from a named outlet linking him to a specific aircraft, and then opened UWM’s 2026 proxy statement on SEC EDGAR for the aircraft lease disclosure above.
Because owners often register through LLCs and trusts, the registry searches show only that nothing is registered under those names. Other public figures with a documented record are in our celebrity private jets hub, such as LeBron James and fellow sports owner Clark Hunt.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does Mat Ishbia own a private jet?
- Not in his own name in the FAA registry on November 6, 2026. UWM's 2026 proxy statement says UWM leases various aircraft owned by entities controlled by Mat Ishbia, and paid those entities $0.4 million for aircraft usage in 2025. The filing does not name the aircraft.
- Does Mat Ishbia own a yacht?
- We found no source we trust that says so, and this page covers aircraft only. A yacht would sit in a different registry from the FAA's, and we did not search one, so we make no claim either way.
- Do NBA owners fly their teams on their own jets?
- We found no source showing that any NBA owner flies a team on a personal jet, and none describing how the Suns travel, so we do not say. A team charter and an owner's own aircraft are separate arrangements, and only the second would show up in an FAA owner search.
