A private jet under $20 million means a new light or midsize jet, or a used large-cabin jet that is 10 to 20 years old. The new ceiling sits around the Embraer Praetor 500 and the Cessna Citation Latitude, reported at about $18.4 million and $19.5 million by Private Jet Card Comparisons. On the used market the same budget reaches Gulfstream G450s and G550s, and even a Global Express XRS, at asking prices that range from about $11 million to $19 million.
This guide ranks the best private jets under $20 million, new and used, with ranges, speeds and reported prices. It also shows what an extra $10 million adds, and how to choose between range, runway and the buy-or-charter decision.
What $20 Million Buys in a Private Jet Today
The budget buys two very different things, and the choice between them is the real decision.
New: Light Jets to Midsize
New jets under $20 million run from single-engine jets at about $3 million to midsize jets at the top of the range. The ceiling is the Embraer Praetor 500 and the Cessna Citation Latitude. Embraer and Textron are not the only options, but they set the high end of what a new-aircraft budget of $20 million can reach. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists the Praetor 500 at $18.4 million and the Latitude at $19.5 million. Both are midsize jets with a cabin about six feet tall. For more on the class, read our guide to the best midsize private jets.
Production status matters. Bombardier delivered its last production Learjet, a Learjet 75, on March 28, 2022, according to AIN, so a Learjet is a used purchase now. AOPA reports that Embraer unveiled the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 on October 14, 2018, at the NBAA convention, built on the same fuselage barrels as the Legacy 450 and 500, which Embraer said it would keep building as demand required. A Praetor is the new-aircraft choice in that family.
Used: Large-Cabin Jets 10 to 20 Years Old
The used market is where $20 million goes furthest. Gulfstream G450s, G550s and Bombardier Global Express XRS jets from the mid-2000s come up for sale at asking prices between about $11 million and $19 million, according to Private Jet Card Comparisons. You get a larger cabin and far more range than any new jet in budget, and you accept older systems.
The Price Is the Smaller Number
A jet is a recurring cost. Crew, fuel, maintenance, hangar space, insurance and engine programs recur every year. A $11 million large-cabin jet costs much more to run than an $11 million light jet. Before you compare asking prices, read our cost of owning a private jet guide.
The Best New Private Jets Under $20 Million
These are ranked with the highest reported list price first. Prices are reported by Private Jet Card Comparisons unless stated, and its page does not date every figure, so treat them as ballpark list prices and ask a dealer for a current quote. Where we could open a dated manufacturer or trade page, we use it instead.
1. Cessna Citation Latitude
The most capable new jet under $20 million. Reported new price $19.5 million. Textron lists a four-passenger range of 2,700 nm and a cabin with six feet of stand-up room. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists up to nine passengers and a high-speed cruise of 429 knots.
2. Embraer Praetor 500
The longest range in the midsize class. Reported new price $18.4 million. Embraer lists 3,340 nm with four passengers and reserves, a 6-foot cabin and a Mach 0.83 maximum operating speed.
3. Embraer Phenom 300
The best-selling light jet. Reported new price $13.9 million. Embraer’s Phenom 300 series was named the world’s best-selling, most delivered light jet for the 13th consecutive year, based on 2024 GAMA data, with 65 delivered in 2024, according to AIN and Embraer in February 2025. Private Jet Card Comparisons gives up to eight passengers, with range figures that vary between 1,811 and 2,270 nm on its own page. We cover it in depth in our Phenom 300 price guide.
4. Pilatus PC-24
The jet that lands on rough fields. Reported new price about $11.5 million to $11.9 million. Pilatus lists a maximum range of 2,000 nm and says the aircraft can operate on short and unmade runways, whether grass, gravel, earth or snow. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists up to eight passengers, a cabin height of 5.08 feet and a speed of 440 knots, with service entry in 2018, and a shorter range of about 1,525 nm, so the two sources do not use the same basis.
5. Cessna Citation CJ3
A value light jet with a long production run. Reported new price about $11 million to $12 million. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists a range of 1,374 nm, up to eight passengers and a speed of 417 knots. The CJ3 was built from 2004 to 2015, with the CJ3+ from 2015 onward.
6. Cessna Citation CJ4
A faster light jet. Reported new price $10.9 million by Private Jet Card Comparisons; Aviation Week stated a CJ4 list price of $12.8 million in August 2026, so expect the current figure to be higher. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists 1,667 nm, seven or eight passengers and a speed of 454 knots, in production since 2010. Aviation Week adds that the upcoming CJ4 Gen3 is expected to reach 2,165 nm.
7. HondaJet
The compact, efficient option. Reported new price $5.3 million to $5.8 million. Private Jet Card Comparisons says the cabin always has four or five seats and gives ranges of 1,223 to 1,486 nm depending on the variant, with a speed of 422 knots. Honda’s own newsroom gives the newer Elite II a range of 1,547 nm, and Aviation Week lists the Elite II at 1,547 nm with four occupants and NBAA IFR reserves, with seating raised to eight including the pilots.
8. Cessna Citation M2
An entry-level jet from Cessna. Reported new price about $5.15 million. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists a range of 1,380 to 1,550 nm, a speed of 404 knots and up to six passengers on its spec table, with the M2 Next Gen introduced in 2021.
9. Cirrus Vision Jet
The single-engine jet. Reported new price about $3.1 million. Cirrus lists a maximum range of 1,275 nm and seating for up to seven passengers on the G3, and says it won the Collier Trophy for developing the world’s first single-engine Personal Jet. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists up to five seats and a shorter range of 796 to 1,200 nm, depending on which figure on its page you use. See our guide to single-engine private jets.
Turboprops are not jets. The King Air 350, for example, is a turboprop and does not belong on a list of private jets.
The Best Used Jets Under $20 Million
Used prices are asking prices, not sale prices. They vary by age, hours, maintenance and avionics, so we give ranges. The ranges below are Private Jet Card Comparisons’ pre-owned figures, which are undated, so check them against live listings on marketplaces such as Controller before you rely on them. Many listings say “call for price,” which is itself a reason to ask a broker for recent sold comparisons.
Large Cabin: Gulfstream G450 and G550, Global Express XRS, Falcon 900EX EASy
Gulfstream G550. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists the G550 as built from 2003 to 2023, with a range of 6,360 to 6,750 nm, up to 18 passengers, and a new price of $62 million. It lists pre-owned prices from $16 million to $18.8 million, which puts the G550 at the top of this budget.
Gulfstream G450. Built from 2005 to 2016 per the spec section (2004 to 2018 per its FAQ), with a range of 4,070 to 4,350 nm, a maximum operating speed of 500 knots and up to 14 passengers. New it was listed at $43 million. Pre-owned prices run from about $11 million to $12.4 million.
Bombardier Global Express XRS. Built from 2005 to 2012, with a range of about 6,055 to 6,190 nm, up to 13 passengers and a maximum operating speed of 511 knots. Pre-owned examples are listed around $14 million.
Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists up to 12 to 14 passengers and range figures that conflict between 3,590 nm and 4,750 nm on its page, so check the aircraft’s own documents. Pre-owned prices run from about $7 million to $11.4 million.
Super Midsize: Challenger 350 and Citation X+
Bombardier Challenger 350. Produced since 2014 and still in production, with a range of 3,277 nm, up to nine passengers, a cabin height of 6.08 feet and a speed of 470 knots. Pre-owned prices run from about $14.5 million to $17.9 million. See our Bombardier private jet price list.
Cessna Citation X and X+. The Citation X was built from 1996 to 2018, with the X+ introduced in 2012, according to Private Jet Card Comparisons. It lists a range of 2,890 nm and a speed of 525 knots, the fastest jet on this list. Its page lists used prices from about $3.9 million to $5 million, and we found no dated marketplace snapshot for the X+, so ask a broker for current asking prices.
What Older Means
Older aircraft cost more to keep legal and safe. Budget for three things before you buy: major inspections, the engine maintenance program (and whether it transfers), and avionics mandates that can require expensive upgrades. A pre-purchase inspection by an independent shop is the standard protection. Our guide to the cost of owning a private jet covers the annual numbers.

Private Jets Under $30 Million: What the Extra $10 Million Adds
Raising the budget to $30 million moves you into super midsize territory. AvBuyer’s September 2023 comparison listed the Bombardier Challenger 3500 at $27.2 million, the Gulfstream G280 at $24.5 million and the Cessna Citation Longitude at $29.995 million, with ranges of 3,377, 3,703 and 3,500 nm from Wichita with four passengers. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists the Embraer Praetor 600 at about $24.5 million, and Embraer lists its range at 4,018 nm.
What the extra money adds is range and cabin, roughly 700 to 1,300 nm more than the Latitude or Praetor 500, plus a wider cabin in the Challenger 3500 per AvBuyer. It does not add the intercontinental range of a large-cabin jet. For that, a used G450 or G550 gives you more range for less money. For the full list of super midsize models, see our best midsize private jets guide.
How to Choose
By Mission
Start with the range of the trips you fly most often. If your usual trip is 1,000 nm, a light jet is enough and a large-cabin jet is overbuilt. If you fly coast to coast regularly, you want the Latitude’s 2,700 nm at a minimum, and a super midsize if you want a margin.
By Runway
Shorter runways, higher airports and hot days all lengthen takeoff distance. Our guide to how much runway a private jet needs shows the figures by class. If your home airport has a short runway, the PC-24 deserves a look, because Pilatus says it can operate on short and unmade runways, whether grass, gravel, earth or snow.
Buy or Charter
Owning makes sense only with enough hours to justify the fixed costs. Below that, charter is cheaper. See our private jet charter cost guide to compare an hourly rate with the annual cost of ownership.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the best private jet under $20 million?
- Among new jets, the Citation Latitude ($19.5M reported) and Praetor 500 ($18.4M reported) are the most capable. Among used jets, a Gulfstream G450 or G550 offers a large cabin and far more range, with higher running costs.
- What does a 20 million dollar private jet get you?
- New, it gets you a midsize jet such as the Praetor 500 or Latitude with a six-foot cabin and 2,700 to 3,340 nm of range. Used, it gets you a 10 to 20 year old large-cabin Gulfstream or Global with intercontinental range.
- Can you buy a large cabin jet for under $20 million?
- Yes, used. Private Jet Card Comparisons lists Gulfstream G450s from about $11M and G550s from about $16M asking, and a Global Express XRS around $14M. New large-cabin jets cost far more, with a new G550 once listed at $62M.
- What is the best private jet under $30 million?
- The Gulfstream G280 ($24.5M), Praetor 600 (about $24.5M) and Challenger 3500 ($27.2M) are the main new options, per AvBuyer in 2023 and Private Jet Card Comparisons. The G280 shows the longest range of the three at 3,703 nm.
