Most private jets do not have a bedroom. A true enclosed bedroom with a fixed bed appears on a short list of large and ultra-long-range jets and on VIP airliners. Everything smaller offers berthable seats or divans that convert into a flat place to sleep, and light jets have reclining seats only.

That distinction matters more than the marketing term “bed.” This guide sorts the models by what the maker’s own pages show: a dedicated bedroom, a convertible divan or berthable seats, or neither.

The Three Kinds of Bed on a Private Jet

  1. Dedicated bedroom or master suite. A closed-off aft room with a fixed bed, found on large and ultra-long-range jets and bizliners.
  2. Convertible divans and berthable seats. Furniture that folds into a flat sleeping surface, on super-midsize jets and up.
  3. Reclining seats. Seats that tilt back but do not lie flat, on most light and many midsize jets.

Each entry below says which one it has, based on the maker’s floor plans and spec pages where we could read them.

Private Jets With a Real Bedroom

1. Gulfstream G700

Verdict: the most sleeping places of any purpose-built business jet we checked.

Gulfstream’s G700 page lists up to 13 sleeping places, up to five living areas and up to 19 seats, with a cabin 56 ft 11 in long and 2,603 cubic feet in volume. Range is 7,750 nm at Mach 0.85.

Gulfstream’s page does not describe the bedroom itself, and its three sample layouts sleep eight or nine. Global Charter, a broker, describes an enclosed aft master suite with a full-size bed and a privacy door as standard in most VIP layouts, which still makes it a layout choice, not a feature of every aircraft. See our Gulfstream G700 price guide for what the jet costs.

  • Bed type: dedicated suite (layout option)
  • Berths: up to 13 (Gulfstream)
  • Range: 7,750 nm

2. Gulfstream G800

Verdict: the same width as the G700 in a shorter, longer-reach package.

Gulfstream lists the G800 at 8,200 nm of range at Mach 0.85, with a cabin 46 ft 10 in long and 2,138 cubic feet, and up to four living areas. The maker says it sleeps up to 10, and sample layouts sleep up to seven. The page does not mention a bedroom, so confirm the floor plan before assuming one.

Global Charter’s bedroom guide lists a stateroom with a full-size bed on the G800, with availability depending on the configuration. That is a broker source, so ask for the specific aircraft’s layout.

  • Bed type: stateroom possible by layout
  • Berths: up to 10 (Gulfstream)
  • Range: 8,200 nm

3. Bombardier Global 8000 and Global 7500

Verdict: Bombardier’s flagship cabin is built around four living spaces, including a principal suite.

Bombardier’s Global 8000 page describes four living spaces, with a typical layout that includes a club suite, conference suite, entertainment suite and a principal suite with an en suite. Cabin length is 54 ft 5 in, height 6 ft 2 in and width 8 ft 0 in, and the stated range is 8,000 nm. The jet seats up to 19.

Global Charter’s guide describes the Global 7500 and 8000 principal suites as having a full-size bed and an en suite. Bombardier’s page does not print a bed size. For the Global 7500, Bombardier’s factsheet lists a range of 7,700 nm and calls it the only business jet large enough for four true living spaces with an available master suite and full-size bed. The word “available” matters: the suite is a layout choice, so check the specific aircraft.

  • Bed type: principal suite (typical layout)
  • Range: 8,000 nm for the 8000
  • Seats: up to 19

4. Dassault Falcon 8X and 6X

Verdict: lounge-style cabins that sleep through berthable seats, not a standard bedroom.

Dassault’s Falcon 8X page lists a 42.7 ft cabin and a 6,450 nm range. It offers a three-lounge layout with an aft shower and lie-flat crew quarters, and an optional Privacy Suite with berthable seats where one person can sleep. The 6X page lists a 40.3 ft cabin, 5,500 nm of range and the same Privacy Suite option. Neither page lists a count of beds or a stateroom.

Global Charter says a true stateroom on the 8X is rare. So these jets belong in the second category below in practice, but they are the most common route to “a private room” in this size.

  • Bed type: berthable seats in an optional Privacy Suite
  • Range: 6,450 nm (8X), 5,500 nm (6X)
  • Passengers: 12 to 16

5. Gulfstream G650ER

Verdict: often delivered with an aft stateroom, but not always.

Gulfstream’s G650ER page now redirects to the G800, so we could not read its specs. Global Charter says the G650ER is more often delivered with an aft stateroom and a full-size bed, while some G650s use convertible divans or club seating. Because layouts vary by tail number, ask the operator for the floor plan of the exact aircraft.

See our Gulfstream G650 price page for what these jets cost on the used market.

6. VIP Airliners: Boeing BBJ and Airbus ACJ

Verdict: the only private aircraft with multiple bedrooms.

BBJ and ACJ aircraft are airliners converted for VIP use. Global Charter describes layouts with several enclosed bedrooms, wardrobes and en suites, and a master suite that can hold a king-size bed. The BBJ 747-8 VIP is described by Boeing as carrying 75 passengers over 8,500 nm with nearly 5,000 square feet of premium cabin space. The ACJ350 lists a cabin floor area of 270 square meters (2,905 square feet) and a 25-passenger range of 11,100 nm on Airbus’s site. See our biggest private jets in the world page.

Jets With Lie-Flat Seats and Divans

These aircraft do not have a closed bedroom, but they can make a flat place to sleep.

7. Bombardier Global 5500 and 6500

Bombardier’s Global 6500 page describes a Private suite with a three-place berthable divan and two zero-gravity seats, plus a crew rest area with a berthable seat. The Nuage chaise in the conference suite can convert into a flat surface for sleeping. The 6500 lists 6,600 nm of range and up to 17 passengers; the 5500 lists 5,900 nm and up to 16.

8. Cessna Citation Longitude

Textron’s Citation Longitude page lists 3,500 nm of range, a cabin 25 ft 2 in long and up to 12 occupants, with “fully berthable seating” and an optional aft couch. It does not say bed or lie-flat.

9. Bombardier Challenger 3500

The Challenger 3500 page lists an optional 3-place divan with berthing capability. The cabin is 25 ft 2 in long and seats up to 10, and range is 3,400 nm. The Nuage seats are described with a zero-gravity position, not as beds.

Do Private Jets Have Bedrooms?

Some do, most do not. A closed bedroom with a fixed bed exists on a few large and ultra-long-range jets, often as a layout option, and on VIP airliners. Super-midsize jets and many large jets give you divans or berthable seats. Light jets have reclining seats only, according to Global Charter’s category guide.

The FAA adds a rule about when you can use a bed. Under 14 CFR 25.785, each person aged two or older must have a seat, or a berth for someone who cannot walk. Where a berth is designated for use during takeoff and landing, it must be designed so a properly positioned person is not seriously injured in an emergency landing, and berths must be free from corners and protuberances likely to cause injury. In practice, most passengers sit in belted seats for takeoff and landing and move to the bed once cruising. Operators set their own rules, so ask yours. Our private jet interior guide covers the rest of the cabin.

Chartering a Jet With a Bed

If you need a bedroom, ask for the category by name: large-cabin or ultra-long-range with a dedicated suite, and confirm the specific tail number’s floor plan, since many jets of the same model are laid out differently. If a divan is enough, super-midsize and large jets are easier to find and cost less per hour.

On very long flights, crew rest matters too. Longer trips need extra pilots who also need somewhere to rest, and some cabins include a crew rest area, such as the lie-flat crew quarters on Falcon 8X layouts. See longest range private jets for aircraft that fly the longest legs and private jet charter cost for what chartering one costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do private jets have bedrooms?
Some large and ultra-long-range jets do, usually as a layout option, along with VIP airliners such as the BBJ and ACJ. Super-midsize and many large jets have berthable divans or seats instead. Light jets have reclining seats only.
Do private jets have beds?
Yes, on many large-cabin jets, either as a fixed bed in a suite or as a divan that converts to a flat bed. Smaller jets generally do not. Check the specific aircraft's floor plan, because layouts differ even within one model.
What is the smallest private jet with a bedroom?
We did not find a maker page that names the smallest jet with an enclosed bedroom. The Gulfstream G800 and Bombardier Global 8000 class offer suite layouts, while Falcon 6X and Global 6500 use berthable seats and divans. Ask the operator for the exact layout.
Can you sleep on a private jet during takeoff?
Not in a regular bed. Under 14 CFR 25.785, anyone designated to occupy a station during takeoff and landing needs a seat or approved berth with restraints. Most passengers sit in belted seats and use the bed once the jet is cruising.
Can you charter a private jet with a bed?
Yes. Ask for a large-cabin jet with a divan or suite, and confirm the layout of the actual aircraft before booking. Jets with a closed bedroom cost more per hour than jets with a divan.
