Elon Musk Private Jet: The G650ER Behind ElonJet, and the LLC That Holds It

- FAA N-number inquiry
Elon Musk’s private jet, in press reporting, is a Gulfstream G650ER with tail number N628TS: Motherboard (Vice) described it as the tail number of Musk’s private jet. FAA records list it, and a 2007 Gulfstream G550 with tail number N272BG, as owned by Falcon Landing LLC at an address on Rocket Road in Hawthorne, California.
The owner on the record is an LLC, not Musk by name, so the link to him comes from press reporting, and that reporting names N628TS. The G550 shares the owner and address on the registry; we found no named report that calls it his. This page shows what the registry says, what the press has linked to Musk, the fight over tracking his flights, and what a jet of this class costs.
The short answer
FAA registry records checked on November 6, 2026 show two Gulfstreams registered to Falcon Landing LLC: N628TS, a G650ER built in 2015, and N272BG, a G550 built in 2007. Motherboard (Vice) reported that SpaceX asked the FAA in 2018 to block tracking data for N628TS, which it described as the tail number of Musk’s private jet. We found no named report that ties N272BG to Musk personally, and we checked no aircraft beyond these two.
What the FAA Registry Shows
We read the FAA’s N-number inquiry for both tail numbers on November 6, 2026. Both records show status Valid and a registration type of LLC.
| Detail | N628TS | N272BG |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Gulfstream GVI (G650ER) | Gulfstream GV-SP (G550) |
| Year built | 2015 | 2007 |
| Serial number | 6177 | 5164 |
| Registered owner | Falcon Landing LLC | Falcon Landing LLC |
| Address | 1 Rocket Rd, Hawthorne, California | 1 Rocket Rd, Hawthorne, California |
| Certificate issued | 03/31/2016 | 08/18/2020 |
| Engines | Rolls-Royce BR700-725A112 | Rolls-Royce BR700-710C411 |
The certificate date is the date the current registration was issued, not necessarily when the aircraft was built or first sold. The G650ER has carried its current registration since March 2016, and the G550 since August 2020.
Falcon Landing LLC and the Rocket Road Address
SpaceX’s own privacy and legal page lists 1 Rocket Road, Hawthorne, CA 90250 as its postal address for privacy requests, the same street address as the FAA record for both aircraft. A shared street address is a pointer, not proof of who controls the LLC.
An LLC registration is common among owners of large aircraft. It separates the aircraft from other assets and can hold it for an operator. What the record shows is the legal owner. It does not tell us who flies the aircraft on a given trip, and we do not guess.
Gulfstream G650ER vs G550 in Plain Terms
Both are large-cabin, long-range business jets from the same manufacturer. The G550 is the older design: ours was built in 2007. The G650ER is the later generation and the one built in 2015. The “ER” means extended range.
Gulfstream no longer sells the G550 as its flagship, and its current ultra-long-range jets include the G700 and G800. Our G650 price guide covers what a G650 costs, and our list of the longest-range private jets shows where these models sit.
What the G650ER Costs to Buy and Run
The purchase price of Musk’s aircraft is not in the public record, and we do not give a number for it. A used G650ER trades in a market where price depends on age, hours and condition, and the G650 price guide explains the range.
Running a jet of this class is a larger cost than most people expect. Crew, hangar, insurance, maintenance and fuel all recur whether the aircraft flies or not. Our cost of owning a private jet page breaks those down.
ElonJet: Tracking, the Suspension and FAA Privacy Programs
An account called @ElonJet, run by Jack Sweeney, posted the movements of Musk’s jet using public ADS-B data. ADS-B is a broadcast that aircraft in most controlled US airspace must send, combining GPS position, altitude and speed, and anyone with a receiver can collect it.
Fox Business reported on February 6, 2022 that Musk reportedly offered Sweeney $5,000 to take the account down, and that Sweeney asked for $50,000 plus an internship. CNBC reported that Twitter suspended @ElonJet on December 14, 2022, and that Musk said sharing someone’s live whereabouts breaks Twitter’s doxxing policy but that “delayed posting of locations are ok.”
Motherboard (Vice) reported on May 4, 2023, from a FOIA request, that SpaceX asked the FAA on August 17, 2018 to block flight tracking data for N628TS under the Limiting Aircraft Data Displayed program. The request asked for “FAA source blocking,” the most stringent type. The article notes this does not stop third-party sites from receiving ADS-B signals directly, because the program covers only data from FAA systems.
We do not publish live positions or flight histories here.
Reports of a Newer Jet
Press reports have mentioned a Gulfstream G700 order and, separately, a G800 delivery for Musk. We opened no primary record for either and found no registration we could check, so we do not list one. The G700 is Gulfstream’s flagship large-cabin jet, certified by the FAA on March 29, 2024, according to General Dynamics. Our G700 price guide covers the price in more detail.
How We Checked
On November 6, 2026 we read the FAA N-number inquiry for N628TS and N272BG and recorded the type, year, serial number, registered owner and status. We then read the press sources named on this page for the link to Musk and for the tracking dispute. A registry search finds only what is registered under the names we search, so other aircraft held by other entities would not appear here.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does Elon Musk own a private jet?
- FAA records show two Gulfstreams, N628TS and N272BG, registered to Falcon Landing LLC. The owner on the record is the LLC, so the link to Musk comes from press reporting, such as Motherboard describing N628TS as his jet, not from the registry alone.
- How many private jets does Elon Musk have?
- The press ties one jet to him by tail number: the 2015 Gulfstream G650ER N628TS. The same LLC is also the registered owner of a 2007 Gulfstream G550, N272BG. Press reports mention other aircraft, including a reported G700 order, but we did not confirm them on the registry.
- Can you still track Elon Musk's jet?
- Twitter suspended @ElonJet on December 14, 2022, but ADS-B signals are public, so third-party sites can still receive them. SpaceX asked the FAA to block N628TS data in 2018, a program that covers only FAA data systems. We do not publish live tracking.
- How much did Elon Musk's jet cost?
- The purchase price is not disclosed in any record we found. FAA registry records do not list price. See our G650 price guide for what the model sells for generally, and our cost of owning a private jet page for what it costs to run.
