What the public aircraft registry can confirm is much less, and the details people repeat, such as the price and the seat count, change from outlet to outlet.

Reported yes, but not confirmed. Multiple outlets say Beyonce bought Jay-Z a Bombardier Challenger 850 in 2012. We could not tie any FAA registration to him, and a search for the name ROC NATION returned no aircraft.

The reporting says yes. Atlanta Black Star reported on June 20, 2012 that Beyonce had given Jay-Z a Bombardier Challenger 850 for Father’s Day, priced at $40 million (£25 million). A later piece from the International Business Times, published October 15, 2019, repeated the story and put the price at $40 million.

The registry side is blank. We searched the FAA aircraft registry by owner name for ROC NATION on November 6, 2026 and found no aircraft. Owners of private jets often register them through LLCs, trusts, or management companies whose names say nothing about the person flying on board. An empty search does not prove he has never owned a jet. It means we cannot confirm which aircraft, if any, is registered to him or his companies.

So the accurate summary is this: a Challenger 850 has been widely reported as his, we could not verify a tail number, and we will not guess one.

It gives an estimated passenger capacity of 15 to 19. Other reports cite different counts, so we do not state a seat number.

That description is the outlet’s, not a tour of the actual cabin, so treat it as a description of the aircraft type.
