The smallest certified private jet in production is the Cirrus Vision Jet. The G3 is 30.7 ft long, according to Cirrus. Smaller designs exist on paper, but they are prototypes or in development, not certified aircraft you can buy and fly.
This page ranks the small jets we could verify by length, explains what “very light jet” means, covers the price of getting into one and answers the question of whether a small jet can cross the Atlantic.
Smallest Private Jets Ranked by Length
We rank by length because that is the number most people mean by small. Only figures we could read at a named source are in the table. The HondaJet Elite II, the Eclipse 500 and the Citation Mustang also belong on any list of small jets, but we could not open a maker’s length figure for them, so they are covered below the ranking without dimensions.
| Model | Length ft | Wingspan ft | Seats | Range nm | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cirrus Vision Jet G3 | 30.7 | 38.7 | Up to 7 | 1,275 | In production | Cirrus |
| Embraer Phenom 100EV | 42.1 | 40.3 | 7 | Not listed | Not listed by AOPA | AOPA |
| Citation M2 Gen3 | 42.6 | 47.3 | Up to 7 occupants | 1,550 | In production | Textron Aviation |
1. Cirrus Vision Jet
The smallest certified jet in production. It has a single Williams FJ33-5A engine, a whole-airframe parachute as standard equipment and Safe Return Autoland in the G3, according to Cirrus. Our single engine private jets guide covers it in depth, including price and safety systems.
- Length: 30.7 ft, Cirrus
- Range: 1,275 nm, Cirrus
- Price: about $3.68 million with options, AOPA and Aviation Week, 2026
2. Embraer Phenom 100EV
A very light jet with a flushing lavatory. AOPA’s aircraft guide lists the Phenom 100EV at 42 ft 1 in long with a 40 ft 4 in wingspan and seven seats, and describes an externally serviced, flushing lavatory. AOPA does not give a range or a production status, so check Embraer for both.
- Length: 42 ft 1 in, AOPA
- Seats: 7, AOPA
3. Citation M2 Gen3
Slightly longer, and single-pilot certified. Textron lists the M2 Gen3 at 42 ft 7 in long with a 47 ft 3 in wingspan, up to seven occupants, a range of 1,550 nm and a maximum cruise speed of 404 KTAS, and says it is single pilot certified.
- Length: 42 ft 7 in, Textron Aviation
- Range: 1,550 nm, Textron Aviation
Also in the Smallest Class: HondaJet Elite II and Citation Mustang
We could not open a maker’s figure for the length of either, so they sit outside the numbered ranking.
- HondaJet Elite II: a very light jet with the engines mounted over the wing. Honda lists a range of 1,547 nm under NBAA IFR rules with four occupants, and AvWeb reported a price of $6.95 million when Honda announced it at NBAA-BACE on October 17, 2022.
- Citation Mustang: out of production, still a common used buy. Textron ended production in May 2017 after a 12-year run, according to AIN and AOPA, citing weak demand, with the Citation M2 as the entry-level jet that carries on.
Small Jets That Are Not Certified
Two small designs often show up on lists as if they were buyable.
- Flaris LAR 1: a Polish single engine jet. Sources we found disagree on its status, with one listing a first flight in 2019 and another calling it not yet flown. We found no source confirming certification, so we treat it as not certified.
- Stratos 716X: a single engine jet from Stratos Aircraft in Oregon. Flying described the 716X in July 2021 as the experimental, kit-built version of a future certified Stratos 716, with Part 23 certification targeted for 2028 and dependent on funding. We found no later source showing the 716 certified.
Any price you have seen for either of them was a projection. See our single engine private jets guide for the full table.
What Counts as a Very Light Jet
“Very light jet” is an industry term, not an FAA category. NBAA’s training guidelines for the class describe very light jets as jet aircraft weighing 10,000 lb or less, a line below the traditional 12,500 lb light-aircraft definition. Manufacturers and brokers draw the line differently, so one site’s very light jet is another’s light jet.
Single-pilot certification is a separate question. Some very light jets are certified for one pilot, and some larger jets are too. Certification is listed per model, so check the aircraft you are looking at.
Smallest Private Jet Price
Small does not mean cheap. The Vision Jet G3 costs about $3.68 million with options according to AOPA and Aviation Week in 2026, and the HondaJet Elite II was announced at $6.95 million, according to AvWeb. Those are new prices. Used Citation Mustangs and Eclipse jets sell for less, depending on age, hours and avionics.
The purchase price is only one part of owning a jet. Insurance, crew or training, hangar, fuel, maintenance and an engine program add up every year. Our cost of owning a private jet guide breaks down each line. If you have more room in the budget, see the best private jets under $20 million.
Living With a Small Jet
Smallest Jet With an Enclosed Lavatory
We could not confirm which small jet is the smallest to offer an enclosed lavatory. Check the exact model and configuration at the manufacturer, because many very light jets offer a basic or optional lavatory. AOPA lists a flushing lavatory on the Phenom 100EV.
Runway Needs
Small jets generally need less runway than large ones, which opens up smaller airports. Our guide on how much runway a private jet needs lists distances by jet class.
Annual Cost
A small jet costs less per hour than a large one, but the fixed costs stay. See the cost of owning a private jet for the breakdown.
Can a Small Private Jet Cross the Atlantic?
Yes, with fuel stops. Small jets usually fly north-Atlantic routes that stop in places such as Goose Bay in Canada, Greenland or Iceland, because a nonstop crossing is too long for their range. The great-circle distance from New York JFK to London Heathrow is about 3,000 nautical miles, per Air Miles Calculator and our own haversine check, well beyond the 1,275 to 1,550 nm ranges in the table above, so a nonstop crossing needs a much larger aircraft. For the opposite end of the size scale, see the biggest private jets in the world.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the smallest private jet?
- The smallest certified private jet in production that we could confirm is the Cirrus Vision Jet, at 30.7 ft long with a 38.7 ft wingspan, according to Cirrus. Designs such as the Flaris LAR 1 and the Stratos 716X kit appear on small-jet lists, but neither is a certified aircraft you can buy.
- How much is the smallest private jet?
- A new Cirrus Vision Jet G3 costs about $3.68 million with options, according to AOPA and Aviation Week in 2026. The HondaJet Elite II was announced at $6.95 million, according to AvWeb. Used very light jets sell for less, depending on age and hours.
- Can a small private jet cross the Atlantic?
- Yes, with fuel stops. Small jets usually route through places such as Goose Bay, Greenland or Iceland. A nonstop crossing between New York and London needs a much larger, long-range aircraft because of the distance.
- What is the smallest plane that can fly across the Atlantic?
- There is no single answer that we can source. Light jets and smaller have crossed with fuel stops, while nonstop flights need a long-range jet. We could not confirm a smallest certified model, so we do not name one.
- What is a very light jet?
- A very light jet is an industry term for the smallest class of business jets, usually under 10,000 lb maximum takeoff weight and often certified for one pilot. It is not an FAA category, so manufacturers and brokers sometimes draw the line differently.
